Police Officers Charged by Young Black Prosecutor in Baltimore

The 35-year-old African American Baltimore chief prosecutor Marilyn Mosby handled police violence against young black men much differently than the lack of indictment of the police officer who shot and killed 18-year-old Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri nine months earlier. She charged the six police officers who killed Freddy Gray, age 25, with manslaughter, stating in her announcement, “To the youth of this city: I will seek justice on your behalf. This is your moment.”[i]
