Trump’s “Aggrieved Masculinity”

Trump’s office often released official photographs of the president flanked by white men in suits, such as when he signed the global “gag rule,” that prevented US funding for health organizations that even mention abortion. New York Times writer Jill Filipovic suggests that the photos aren’t “an error but a game plan.” She suggests the photos are a continuation of Trump’s campaign of “aggrieved mansculinity,” and male entitlement, as men feel they’ve lost power. Trump’s theme of make American great again can be read as give power back to white men: His cabinet is composed of the most white men in 35 years. The hatred of Hillary Clinton seen in chants to lock her up and T-shirts saying “Trump That Bitch.”
